Gretchen Lewis is an illustrator and pop-surrealist painter who lives and works out of San Francisco. Using the primary medium of oil on wood, the saucer-eyed, rubbery critters in her works are often personal manifestations of Lewis’ own weird little obsessions, among them nature, biology, and her growing collection of vintage toys. They are equally informed by a childhood diet devouring classic children’s books and fairytales, as well as vintage cartoon shorts in the vein of Silly Symphonies or Merry Melodies.
